✨ Kinlight

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026

Kinlight ("the app") is made by Aleksandar Sestovic ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, and how you can delete it. In short: we collect as little as possible, we never sell data, and we keep ads small and clearly marked.

What we collect

An anonymous account. When you first open the app, it creates an anonymous account (a random ID) with Google Firebase Authentication. We don't ask for your email, phone number or password.

Your name. The name you choose is shown to the friends you connect with.

Your invite code and friendships. A 6-letter code lets friends connect with you. We store which accounts are connected.

Glimmers and notes. When you send a glimmer, drawing, text or stickers, they are stored on our server only until your friend's app receives them, and then deleted from the server. On your friend's phone, notes stay for up to 24 hours.

Reports. If you report someone, we store your account ID, their account ID and the reason, so we can review it.

Ads

Kinlight shows a small native ad, clearly marked "Ad", in the "Moments" screen and under the clock on the Kinlight lock screen (you can hide it with ✕, and it never covers a note from a friend). It also offers optional rewarded ads in the unlocked app (for example, watch an ad to send a rare glimmer or get more notes for the day). Ads are provided by Google AdMob.

To show and measure ads, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and how you interact with ads, under Google's policy. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice any time in More → Privacy & ad choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.

What stays on your phone

Your chosen world, friendship levels, streaks, rare moments and app settings are stored only on your device.

Location. If you choose "Use my location for the sky", the app reads your approximate location on your device to place the sun and moon correctly and to get the local weather. The coordinates, rounded to about 1 km, are sent to MET Norway to get the weather, without any account ID, and are not stored on our server. Without permission, the app uses a default city.

Camera. Scanning a friend's QR code uses Google's code scanner in Google Play services. The app itself never gets access to your camera or images.

Why we use it

To run the app: connect you with friends you choose, deliver what you send them, show the sky and weather, and keep the community safe through reports and blocking. The content you send friends is never used for advertising. Ad data is handled by Google AdMob as described above.

Who processes it

Account and message data are stored with Google Firebase (Google LLC) on Google Cloud servers, which may be located outside your country. Ads are served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). Weather is provided by MET Norway. We don't share data with anyone else, except if required by law.

How long we keep it

Glimmers and notes are deleted from the server as soon as they are delivered. Your name, invite code and friendships are kept until you delete your account. Reports are kept for up to 12 months.

Deleting your data

In the app, open More → Delete my account. This immediately deletes your account, name, invite code, friendships and any undelivered glimmers and notes from our server, and all app data on your phone. You can also request deletion here.

Children

Kinlight is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections. Server rules only allow you to read your own friendships and what is sent to you.
